Brief/
xsite architecture was shortlisted in November 2004 in a competition to redesign a large area of Byker, Newcastle upon Tyne.
Design/
The design had three main ideas.
1: a Green Corridor that establishes a link between the sites and the area to the wider city, encouraging the area to be seen as part of the mental map of Newcastle upon Tyne and Tyneside.
2: the reintroduction of a High Street as the focus of neighbourhood facilities and amenities at Raby Cross and down Raby Street.
3: Place making Housing as a south wall along Walker Road and on the east side of St Lawrence Square.
