Brief/
North Tyneside Council is looking to develop a new programme of
permanent public art works, sited at significant ‘gateways’ into the
borough.
Design/
The competition proposal sets out a number of steel sculptures to stand
as sentinels along routes between the sites identified. Steel markers
represent unknown individuals that have travelled these paths over
time. Humanlike in stance, the markers respond to movement with
shifting views and perspectives, guiding the visitor through the
landscape and offering a contemplative significance to the area.
Coloured lights within the markers emit light through translucent
panels to mark out the pathways at dark.
