Brief/
The project
consisted of the complete conversion and extension of an early 1970's
dwelling to modern standards, with the aims of optimising the
accommodation, architectural features, views and use of the site and
garden.
Design/
The
solution found was to extend the staircase out the back of the building
to form a wide, elegant climb to a new sunroom/music room overlooking
the back garden and forest. This in turn formed a key circulation point
leading back into a large living room and balcony, and to the side to a
new bedroom wing. Carbon-plate reinforcing technology was adopted to
allow a new opening beneath an existing cantilevered concrete balcony
allowing a new dining room to enjoy light and access to the patio area.
