Brief: Provide 112no. high specification studio bedrooms for Durham University students.
Design: Student accommodation schemes have been notoriously poorly designed when responding to the context they are set in. Our brief was to provide a very high specification internally to be attractive to the postgraduate foreign student that Durham is recruiting in significant numbers.
Externally the scheme also had to respond to a fabulous setting on the southern edge of the Durham Vale, overlooking University sports fields and careful choice of material, massing and the creation of an internal courtyard forms a great setting for enjoying and thriving in your University career.
